So recently I went to an amazing Cosmopolitan event, It was their masterclass which I luckily won two passes and got to attend too. Now if you have no idea what I'm going on about it was basically an evening where different people from different spectres of the fashion industry got together and told a bunch of us 'wannabes' so to speak, how they got into the industry etc...
The event started around 6:30 but before hand we were greeted with a lovely glass of bubbly while we all waited for the evening to start. May I just say that everyone looked beyond gorgeous and brought individuality and style to their outfits. I must say I was rather jealous of a few outfits out together, I felt slightly under dressed.
When the even finally began and we were moved into the conference room we had amazing goody bags on our seats. It was filled with things like face masks, lip sticks, dry shampoo and some other cute things, so I was pretty happy about that.
Finally the talk began and were introduced to the panel of talkers by none other than Cosmopolitan's editor Louise Court. She made the whole night great and really gave good advice through the night that I took away with me. The other amazing people that were to speak to us all was jewellery designer Laura Gravestock, buying manager for River Island Leanne Jones, Senior press officer at Miss Selfridge Lisa Goody, co-founder of Fashionpopcorn.com Emily Fleuriot and fashion director at Industry magazine and website Drapers Ian Wright.
Throughout the night they all shared their experiences from working from the bottom to getting where they are now, their pros and cons of the industry and the best ways of starting a career in fashion. It was an honour and experience to hear from each one of them and it definitively made me think more about how much I want to get into the industry.
Although they couldn't have said enough how hard it is and how much work you have to put it in, it's definitely something worth working for. Starting from the bottom, having to do small, unpaid things may be long, tiring but eventually it will get you to where you want to be. Nothing in life is easy but if you work for it, no doubt you'll succeed. So without further or do I'm off to send another trillion emails to company's about internships. You gotta do what you gotta do. Bye bye for now everyone.
P.s - I promise I'll try and write on my blog more.
P.s.s - sorry there are no pictures. No camera + dead phone battery = no pictures on blog to make it look half decent. My bad
