So here is part two of my two part posts about the Lush interview procedures. I've just got back from my trial shift which was so much fun I must say, short but sweet. It lasted about an hour and it was really simple, a lot more easier and laid back for me than the group interview. So I came in and was met with the trainee manager who brought me into the back and explained what was going to happen for the next hour. Really basic things, just making sure I'm approaching customers and trying to do as many demonstrations I can, she gave me apron to wear and brought me out on to the shop floor. Before I really started the manager and then another staff member demonstrated a few products on me so I knew what to do with the customers. Can I just say how amazing is the body shower scrub 'Rub Rub Rub'?! I tried it for the first time and my hands have never felt so smooth and soft since I came out my mums womb. TMI sorry. You can purchase it here anyways, if not go into your local store and have a try, it's totally worth it. The sea salts really exfoliate the skin and the jasmine flower infusion and organic lemon juice leave a really good smell behind.
After a few demonstrations I was on my own. Well not on my own, I was with the other staff but I had to try and work for myself. I felt a little bit nervous of course as anyone would, but I soon got my confidence back. I was within a team of lovely staff members, very friendly which helped a lot. Halfway through the manager called me into the back and just told me what she liked which was my confidence and the way I spoke to customers, then what she wanted me to do a bit more of which was demonstrating the products. The hour was soon up and before I left she told me that they would be in contact with me and the other girls who had a trial shift if we got the job or not, either way they would contact us. I was even given one of the new soap bars as a gift which was very nice of them.
Overall it was definitely a great experience whether I get the job or not, I'm glad I got the opportunity to experience it. So to really sum up everything I think
- Be yourself - This is one of the main points I've highlighted before. It's all about personality when it comes to working in a store like Lush. Try and show as much of your awesome qualities as possible in the little time you have at the trial shift. Even if you're shy, I'm not saying you HAVE to be all in peoples faces, super hyper but being friendly and giving great customer service is important.
- Be confident - Confidence is key. It's not just about saying hello when customers come in, you have to go up and chat, spark up a conversation as much as you can. Confidence is something good to have so you're able to talk to the customers freely and also being confident to sell products to customers.
- Demonstrate - This is something I found a little hard to do at first as most of the customers declined but if you can demonstrate products on customers as much as you possibly can that will be a big plus. Also customers are more likely to buy products they don't know about if they can actually see how it works, so luckily in store you can throw a few bath bombs in the bowels and get to show the customers.
- Listen - You are more than likely going to end up getting asked questions from customers that you have no idea what the answer is too but don't worry, there will be other staff there to help you. If it's possible have a listen to what the other staff member tells them but it's not that important as if you get the job you get full training.
And that it really, that's all the information and advice I can share. In terms of what to wear, it's anything as long as it's just all black or black and white, whatever you're comfortable in. I just wore black dungarees and a white shirt with my black dr martens, very simple. I hope this helped you all in some ways, and you've learnt something from this. Good luck people.
